About The Position

The Kennedy Lab at McGill University is seeking a Research Associate for a full-time, three-month position. The role involves independent work on basic research projects focused on investigating and analyzing the biochemical mechanisms that regulate myelination and remyelination in the central nervous system. The core project will address how biochemical mechanisms support myelin organization and health in the adult mammalian central nervous system and promote remyelination in animal models of human demyelinating disease. Key tasks include analyzing oligodendrocyte maturation and migration during development and utilizing the lysophosphatidyl choline (LPC) mouse model of demyelination/remyelination. The candidate will collaborate with the principal investigator on experimental study design, develop and maintain laboratory infrastructure, and work with multidisciplinary teams. Responsibilities also include data analysis, drafting manuscripts, generating figures, contributing to grant writing, organizing and presenting findings at conferences, and supervising a full-time technician and graduate/summer trainees.

Requirements

  • Must have at least a PhD Degree
  • Expertise is essential in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, molecular genetics, mammalian primary cell culture, fluorescence confocal microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, digital image analysis and statistics.
  • The capacity to thrive in a highly collaborative research laboratory environment is essential.
  • At least one year of research experience in the following fields: molecular and cell biology of oligodendrocytes and myelin, biochemistry, electron microscopy.
  • Must be fluent in both English and French
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada
  • Must be willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based / located.
  • English communication both verbally and in writing required (Level 3 on a scale of 0-4).

Responsibilities

  • Work independently on basic research projects.
  • Investigate and analyze the biochemical mechanisms that regulate myelination and remyelination in the central nervous system.

  • Develop and maintain the laboratory infrastructure to support these studies.

  • Write drafts of manuscripts.
  • Generate figures.
  • Contribute to grant writing.
  • Organize and represent findings and present them at conferences.
  • Participate in supervising a full-time technician.
  • Supervise graduate and summer trainees.
