About The Position

The Research Associate will participate in the planning, design, execution, and management of research projects in a foundational (basic) biological/health science research laboratory investigating Cardiac Research in the Department of Surgery, Cardiac Division. This role involves developing and implementing study goals and objectives, executing complex laboratory experiments, and performing advanced molecular and cellular techniques. The associate will collect, analyze, and interpret research data, and assist in the development and implementation of new or revised research methodologies. Responsibilities include testing experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods, making recommendations for utilization, and assisting in the establishment of controls, criteria, and research standards. The role also requires critical analysis of relevant literature, assisting in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation, and contributing to project reports and other documents. Additionally, the associate will support the principal investigator in preparing proposals for extramural funding, coordinate laboratory activities and work assignments for other research staff, and oversee the maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
1-3 years of relevant experience.
Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic and/or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research.
Requires successful completion of a background check.
Qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.

Oversees and coordinates periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
