About The Position

The Department of Physics at the University of Virginia is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Kent Paschke. The successful candidate will collaborate with nuclear, accelerator, and data scientists to develop machine learning methods using particle detector and beamline monitor data. The goal is to enhance the control of beam properties relevant to the MOLLER experiment. This role involves preparing for efficient data analysis, conducting simulations of the experimental apparatus, coordinating measurements and analysis between accelerator and MOLLER collaboration personnel, and mentoring graduate students involved in the research. The position is based at Jefferson Lab in Newport News, Virginia.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in experimental subatomic physics with accelerated beams or a closely related field by the starting date.
  • Track-record of initiative and leadership.
  • Experience with precision measurements.
  • Experience with data analysis.
  • Experience with software development.
  • Experience with simulation.
  • Experience with accelerator physics.

Responsibilities

  • Develop machine learning methods with particle detector and beamline monitor data to improve control of beam properties relevant to the MOLLER experiment.
