About The Position

Nurix Therapeutics, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Protein Expression Research Associate to join the DEL and Protein Sciences team. This individual will work cross functionally with internal stakeholders to plan, coordinate, and execute all operational activities required for analytical scale and preparative scale expression of recombinant proteins in baculovirus and mammalian cell systems. Additionally, they will be responsible for documentation of expression conditions and results in internal databases and electronic lab notebook systems. This is an onsite role.

Requirements

• MS or equivalent with 2+ years of relevant experience, or Ph.D.
• 2+ years of experience working with insect cell lines and baculovirus expression of recombinant proteins.
• Highly proficient in maintaining insect cell and mammalian cell cultures.
• Excellent knowledge and high degree of familiarity with all steps in baculovirus expression of recombinant proteins, including clone design, generation and purification of bacmids, raising and titering of baculovirus, conducting MOI studies, cell culture of Sf9 and/or Tni/Hi5 cells, and harvesting of biomass on the scale of 1 L – 20 L.
• Strong working knowledge of protein characterization steps, including SDS-PAGE analysis, size exclusion chromatography, and/or thermal stability (e.g. nanoDSF).
• Must be able to lift 50+ pounds comfortably.
• Able to work in dynamic, fast-paced environment with experience prioritizing work across multiple projects.
• Detail-oriented with strong record keeping skills.
• Strong communication skills and an effective team player.
• A respectful lab citizen who maintains an organized and clean working environment.
• Intellectually curious and highly motivated to learn.

Nice To Haves

• Additional experience working with recombinant protein expression in mammalian cells (e.g. HEK293).
• Industry experience preferred with exemplified ability to overexpress milligram amounts of protein for structural and functional studies for multiple protein classes.
• Familiarity with multiplexed/automated microscale purification technologies (e.g. magnetic beads).
• Previous experience expressing multi-subunit protein complexes.
• Past experience troubleshooting difficult protein expressions for a variety of target proteins.
• Past experience purifying recombinant proteins (e.g. affinity chromatography, ion exchange, or size exclusion chromatography).

Responsibilities

• Perform protein characterization steps, including SDS-PAGE analysis, size exclusion chromatography, and/or thermal stability (e.g. nanoDSF).
• Prioritize work across multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Maintain an organized and clean working environment.
• Troubleshoot difficult protein expressions for a variety of target proteins.
• Purify recombinant proteins using techniques such as affinity chromatography, ion exchange, or size exclusion chromatography.
