Research Associate II, mRNA technologies

Repertoire Immune Medicines•Watertown, MA
•$75,000 - $90,000•Onsite

About The Position

Repertoire Immune Medicines is seeking a motivated Research Associate II to join its Integrated Therapeutic Engineering and Design (ITED) team. The lab-based role supports development of mRNA-LNP approaches for autoimmunity and cancer vaccines, with a focus on designing and producing immune-silent mRNAs that deliver disease-modifying epitopes and immunomodulators for autoimmune disorders. The role performs mRNA production techniques, including in-vitro synthesis and purification, quality control and assessment of innate immune reactivity, and downstream applications to evaluate expression of mRNA gene products. The Research Associate will own experimental design, implementation, and data analysis, and communicate results to a supervisor and the broader team. Success requires execution, experimental rigor, scientific curiosity, and strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • B.S. or M.S. in Biochemistry, Biology, Bioengineering, Immunology, or a similar field.
  • At least 2 years of academic or biotech/pharma laboratory experience.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and data-analysis skills.
  • Ability and desire to quickly learn new laboratory techniques and understand their significance to program goals.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with mRNA in-vitro transcription (IVT) and AKTA/FPLC techniques.
  • Demonstrated understanding of complex molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, primer design, DNA purification, and RNA production and purification.
  • Laboratory skills in sterile cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISAs, and western blots.
  • Knowledge of innate and adaptive immunology.
  • Experience with FlowJo, SnapGene, and Prism.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments as a key contributor to the ITED team, under the supervision of the manager and scientific project leads.
  • Manage large-scale production of high-quality in-vitro-transcribed mRNA, including purification, quality-control assessments, and documentation.
  • Assess protein products produced from mRNAs using techniques such as ELISAs, western blots, and flow cytometry.
  • Cross-train with the LNP team to learn complete mRNA-LNP encapsulation techniques.
  • Maintain good laboratory practices, including accurate electronic lab notebook documentation, instrument and reagent validation, and adherence to laboratory safety policies.
