Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Research Associate - Department of Oncology at its Detroit campus location. This role involves performing laboratory-based scientific techniques or clinical/population science (human subjects) research, designing and performing experiments, and recruiting participants. The associate will also participate in implementing research objectives, ensuring compliance with guidelines, and assisting staff with experiments. Communication with the principal investigator and postdoctoral scholars/fellows on research status is key. The position also entails collecting and logging laboratory results, clinical outcomes, and/or survey data, evaluating and performing data analysis using various visual aids, and proofreading research data for accuracy. The Research Associate will prepare and present research results at conferences, summarize data for journal submittal, write scientific manuscripts, and fact-check documents. Maintenance of laboratory work areas, including routine equipment maintenance, ordering supplies, and maintaining workstation cleanliness, is also required. Additionally, this role provides scientific, operational, and supervisory support for a clinical and population science research program focused on improving care and resources for cancer survivors and their loved ones. This includes overseeing day-to-day progress across funded projects, such as a psychoeducational intervention for LGBTQ+ cancer survivors and their caregivers and the adaptation of educational resources into an interactive online curriculum. Specific responsibilities include supervising a Research Assistant and helping oversee students, interventionists, and other personnel; managing regulatory processes (PRMC and IRB submissions, amendments, continuing reviews); maintaining document management systems and version control; managing interventionist training and interface; supporting intervention and curriculum development; contributing to qualitative and quantitative data analysis; supporting manuscript, abstract, and presentation preparation; and assisting with grant proposal development and submission. The Research Associate will serve as a key liaison among the Principal Investigator, research staff, community partners, and collaborators, exercising independent judgment in coordinating research operations and advancing scientific priorities.
