About The Position

An individual in this position manages large data sets associated with the study of animal influenza viruses on the animal side of the human-animal interface. This individual will be responsible for the reporting of data to major funding sources of scientific research. They will also be responsible for managing logistical items including but not limited to compliance documentation, protocols, and animal-use documentation.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a research laboratory
  • Experience working with large datasets in various research disciplines
  • Previous experience in training others on protocols, processes
  • Previous experience with a lab information management system
  • Demonstrates effective organizational skills
  • Previous experience with data management
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis software
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint

Nice To Haves

  • Influenza A virus research experience
  • Familiarity with NIH-NIAD and the CEIRR Network
  • Familiarity with IACUC, IBC, and other programs related to laboratory safety and animal studies
  • Proficiency with programs like GraphPad Prism, Genious Prime, Illustrator
  • Grant writing
  • Writing and publishing papers in scientific journals

Responsibilities

  • Be the manager and point of contact for the data that is generated by multiple scientific studies within the Animal Influenza Ecology & Epidemiology Research Group (AIEERP).
  • Present key benchmarks and updates with collaborators and funding sources in a timely manner.
  • Organize data in proper formats for submission to the Centers of Excellence for Influenza Research and Response (CEIRR) and other agencies in order to strengthen reporting and specimen sharing between collaborators.
  • Attend calls, conferences that may introduce novel and/or streamlined data entry methods to increase proficiency of established processes.
  • Assist with updating compliance documentation (IBC, IACUC) and online protocols related to responsibly conducted research.
  • Assist with the composition and review of grants.
  • Assist with writing and publishing manuscripts.
  • Occasionally maintain inventories of reagents, chemicals, and biological materials and work with laboratory manager to address needs of said products.
  • Assist with the occasional training of students on certain tasks as it relates to data entry and management.
  • Occasional hands-on laboratory procedures in the event of future absences and vacancies.
