About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Public Health has an exciting opportunity for a full time Research Associate 2 to work in Miami, FL. The Research Associate 2, SOM contributes to the University’s research activities under the supervision of senior staff. Moreover, the incumbent understands, interprets, and complies with research policies and protocols. Our project will focus on studying the effects of indoor air on respiratory diseases, with the focus on chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. Thus, the position involves interaction with patients with COPD and/or asthma, recruiting adult subjects with asthma and/or COPD from our pulmonology and family medicine clinics, conducting indoor monitoring in their homes to assess their indoor and outdoor air quality, tracking their weekly respiratory symptoms for 4-6 months, training patients in using smart watches. At the conclusion of the study, transfer and manage all data from the air sensors and Apple Watches onto our server located in our laboratory. Collect and analyze both environmental samples and biospecimen using the protocols provided. Willing to travel to patients’ home both during weekdays and weekends for conducting indoor and outdoor air monitoring, setting and/or checking air sensors and/or their Apple Watches. This is a 1 year limited research role, continuity after 1 year subject to funding availability. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required

  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.

Responsibilities

  • Performs specialized and complex experiments/studies.
  • Participates in the publication of significant research results.
  • Advances expertise through education, training, and research.
  • Writes extramural grants/proposals to gain support when appropriate.
  • Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens and tissue cultures.
  • Weighs and anesthetizes laboratory animals for experiments.
  • Operates sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment.
  • Performs calculations to complete research test results.
  • Performs photography and dark room processing.
  • Participates in training sessions and workshops.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
