About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Human Genetics has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Research Associate 1 to work in Miami. The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research. Work with Project PIs to perform molecular genetic experiments related to the genetics of Alzheimer Disease and Related Dementias. Perform standard and specialized molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid extraction and quantification, cloning, PCR, nucleic acid sequencing, and other specific techniques as required. Perform quantitation and qualitation of DNA sample by Nanodrop, Qubit and Gel Electrophoresis. Operate various lab equipment including but not limited to centrifuges, pipettes, vortexes, and thermocyclers. Demonstrate the ability to learn new technologies and standard operating protocols in a timely manner. Communicate procedures in written and/or oral form with the other team members in the lab. Analyze data for quality and consistency and troubleshoot equipment and report issues to supervisor. Review journals, abstracts and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding previous experiments to aid in the design and development of original procedures and techniques. Attend project and team related meetings and present results, data, and updates on progress. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required
  • Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
  • Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
  • Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
  • Participates in the publication of significant results.
  • Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
  • Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.
  • Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
  • Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.
  • Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
