About The Position

Under supervision, the Research Associate 1, 2, or 3 (RA1/2/3) position will work in the HIV Biorepository Core laboratory used by multiple investigators at LSUHSC, partner institutions, other universities and outside vendors. The RA1/2/3 will facilitate the acquisition, processing and archival of tissues from HIV infected subjects and controls as well as subjects with tumors of viral etiology. The incumbent will provide various services, including patient identification, obtaining informed consent, specimen collection, tissue processing, sample storage and maintenance, database creation, and management of the HIV Biorepository data. They may also be responsible for all database, equipment, and technological procurement suggestions and upgrades. The incumbent is expected to perform general day-to-day lab operations including daily and routine maintenance of lab equipment and instruments The RA1/2/3 will also purchase and/or recommend the purchase of lab supplies, reagents and new equipment for research projects. The selected candidate must have reliable transportation and the ability/be willing to travel daily to various clinics for specimen collection when required. Successful candidates must be able to work with a high degree of self-motivation and possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and/or within a team. Prior laboratory experience is highly desirable.
