About The Position

This is a new position for a Research Assistant (CUPE) within the Faculty of Social Sciences, specifically in the School of Sociological and Anthropological Studies. The role is for the 2026 Fall Semester, with a work start date of September 1, 2026, and an end date of December 22, 2026. The total work hours for this position are 224. The position is classified under the CUPE 2626 collective agreement. The hourly rate is $32.84 for undergraduate students and $51.75 for graduate students (rates for Sept. 2025 - Aug. 2026, excluding vacation and statutory pay, subject to change with a new collective agreement). The language of work is English and French. The position involves various research-related tasks, with specific hour allocations to be negotiated with the supervising professor.

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience in coordination within a research centre or a comparable setting.
  • Fully bilingual (French and English), both spoken and written.
  • Experience in administrative and budgetary management.
  • Experience organizing scientific events.
  • Experience coordinating activities involving multiple internal and external partners.
  • Hands-on experience in developing and preparing major grant proposals, including coordinating the multiple components, timelines, and collaborators required for such large-scale applications.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Autonomy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Very good knowledge of Workday.
  • Very good knowledge of university administration.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the centre's director, manage the centre's research activities and ensure they run smoothly.
  • Serve as a liaison between researchers, partners, students, funding agencies, and the University's administrative services.
  • Ensure the consistency, quality, and timely completion of all projects.
  • Contribute to the centre's strategic development and outreach.
  • Coordinate research projects: planning, organizing, and monitoring the centre's various projects, ensuring that objectives, budgets, and deadlines are met.
  • Coordinate activities involving multiple partners, institutions, and research teams.
  • Support for grant applications: assist researchers in preparing, drafting, and submitting funding applications, including coordinating major grant applications involving multiple partners and institutions.
  • Administrative and financial management: Monitor project budgets; prepare progress reports and financial statements required by funding agencies.
  • Coordinate the centre's day-to-day administrative operations and implement processes that promote effective, compliant, and efficient management of activities.
  • Liaison and Communication: Maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners; organize meetings, scientific events, and knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Ensure that the centre’s website, digital platforms, and communication tools are kept up to date, in accordance with institutional standards, accessibility requirements, and applicable policies.
  • Team Support: Assist the director in planning and implementing the centre's strategic priorities; provide recommendations regarding the centre's activities, partnerships, communications, and development.
  • Mentor and support research staff and students and contribute to a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping: Prepare various documents (reports, minutes, presentations) and ensure that the centre's monitoring tools are kept up to date.
  • Manage documentation and ensure that administrative and research files comply with institutional and funding agency requirements.
