About The Position

This Research Assistant position is with Dr Andrea Patey, Knowledge Translation / Implementation Scientist in the Department of Medicine, Quality and Safety and involves providing administrative and research support. Working in the area of implementation Science: specifically, but not exclusively, de-implementation science and resource stewardship, the Research Assistant will be involved in de-implementation research activities to determine whether implementation (starting a new evidence-based clinical behaviour) and de-implementation (stopping an ineffective or harmful practice) are distinct processes that require different intervention strategies. Further, the position will support the development of the DRIVE (De-implementation Research to ImproVe quality of care) Centre, a research centre aimed at advancing the science of de-implementation. Under the supervision of Dr. Patey, the Research Assistant will also have the opportunity to work with organizations like Choosing Wisely Canada, Choosing Wisely Nova Scotia, and Choosing Wisely at IWK to move beyond education and awareness toward developing and testing interventions that reduce clinical overuse and harm and improve care quality.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in a health-related discipline, or Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience conducting knowledge syntheses using COVIDENCE and MEDLINE
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, videoconference software)
  • Ability to develop agendas, background materials, and minutes for meetings
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to function independently yet collaboratively within a team
  • Openness to learning about the importance of partnering with people with lived experience in research
  • Understand importance and demonstrate ability to foster a culture of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility

Responsibilities

  • Assist with project planning, research ethics submissions, literature reviews, data collection, and dissemination activities for research projects.
  • Provide administrative and research support
  • Knowledge translation/mobilization activities, such as reports, conference presentations
  • Processes and submits forms to Research Ethics Board (REB) as required
  • Conduct literature searches
  • Assists with drafting research reports and publication materials
  • Participate in the development of project, including identifying and recommending opportunities for efficiency and effectiveness
  • Assist with creation and/or modification of presentations, posters or other dissemination materials
