About The Position

The Food Science Department is seeking a part-time research assistant to work in Yi Zhang's lab. This role involves conducting experiments in protein purification and quantification, setting up and performing laboratory protocols using FPLC equipment, preparing buffers and reagents, operating and maintaining laboratory instruments, collecting and analyzing data, and assisting with lab management tasks.

Requirements

Experience in protein purification and quantification
Experience with laboratory protocols and experiments using fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC) equipment
Ability to prepare buffers, reagents, standards, and samples
Experience operating and maintaining laboratory instruments (spectrophotometers, plate readers, pH meters, centrifuges)
Ability to collect and analyze data
Ability to record experimental procedures and observations
Experience with routine statistical analyses (summary statistics, t-tests/ANOVA)
Ability to generate figures, tables, and concise summaries
Ability to interpret results and report
Experience with lab management tasks including preparing purchase requests, tracking orders, and maintaining lab SOPs

Responsibilities

Conduct experiments in protein purification and quantification
Set up and perform laboratory protocols and experiments using fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC) equipment to purify and quantify characterize food proteins from mixture
Prepare buffers, reagents, standards, and samples
Operate and maintain relevant laboratory instruments, such as spectrophotometers, plate readers, pH meters, centrifuges
Collect and analyze data
Record experimental procedures and observations
Conduct routine statistical analyses (e.g., summary statistics, t-tests/ANOVA) and generate figures, tables, and concise summaries
Interpret results and report
Prepare purchase requests
Track orders, confirm receipt
Maintain lab SOPs
