About The Position

The Addiction Recovery Research Center (ARRC) at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC is seeking a part-time Research Assistant to contribute to research projects focused on long-term addiction recovery, decision-making processes, and interventions for substance use disorders. This role involves supporting a research team in various recruitment, technical, and data collection activities for both funded and pilot research projects. Responsibilities will include collecting and organizing human subject data, with tasks ranging from entry-level to advanced.

  • Demonstrated ability to collect and organize experimental data
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and team skills
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated computer skills and experience using Microsoft applications
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to succeed in a fast-paced research environment with multiple concurrent duties
  • Excellent communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or training in psychology, biology, neuroscience, or related field
  • Demonstrated data analysis experience
  • Experience contributing to publications or scientific presentations
  • Experience in one or more of the following research areas: psychology, addiction, neuroscience, clinical trials
  • Experience with basic laboratory protocols including proper handling of subject specimens, data collection, participant recruitment, assessments, and data management
  • Proficiency with REDCap, Qualtrics, QuestionPro or similar survey tools and/or experience with statistical analysis
  • Experience with social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, etc.) to support research study participation and community engagement

Responsibilities

  • Making significant contributions to the projects assigned.
  • Recruiting and screening volunteers to participate in a range of research studies.
  • Scheduling and confirming appointments for participant research study visits.
  • Collecting and entering data from research participants.
  • Administering assessments and structured interviews, collecting urine or breath samples.
  • Tracking and making participant payments.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential records.
  • Conducting literature searches to gather background information.
  • Participating in research team meetings to report on progress and data.
