About The Position

The Ecohydrology Lab managed by Heidi Asbjornsen and Matt Vadeboncoeur is seeking a summer research assistant to assist with projects related to the establishment of various agroforestry system types and with a project investigating forest drought sensitivity. Ability to travel to various field sites within the Durham-Epping-Madbury area is required. The University of New Hampshire is an R1 Carnegie classification research institution providing comprehensive, high-quality undergraduate and graduate programs of distinction. UNH is located in Durham on a 188-acre campus, 60 miles north of Boston and 8 miles from the Atlantic coast and is convenient to New Hampshire’s lakes and mountains. There is a student enrollment of 13,000 students, with a full-time faculty of over 600, offering 90 undergraduate and more than 70 graduate programs. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Natural Resources, Forestry, or a related field
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a research lab or similar work environment
  • Experience with tree identification
  • Experience with off-trail navigation and travel in difficult terrain
  • Experience with the safe operation and handling of firearms
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Field work (60%) Visits to remote field sites to collect samples and associated data
  • Lab work (30%) Sample preparation for analysis (grinding, drying, weighing, scanning, slide preparation, etc.)
  • Data management (10%) Data entry in spreadsheets, data quality-control
