About The Position

The Laboratory of Molecular Neuro-Oncology is seeking an organized, self-motivated, and experienced Research Technician to collaborate closely with their team of biologists. This role offers an excellent opportunity to learn and apply cutting-edge neuroscience and molecular biology techniques directly relevant to human disease research. The lab investigates how RNA binding proteins (RBPs) modulate gene expression, focusing on neuron-specific RNA-binding proteins in the mammalian brain and their link to intellectual function and human disease.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Candidate must be comfortable working with mouse models, including handling, setting up matings, weaning, and dissections
  • Demonstrated experience with basic molecular biology techniques (e.g., genotyping)
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • High level of self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong interest and willingness to learn new experimental methods in neuroscience

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced familiarity with specialized biochemical techniques and molecular biology protocols
  • Direct prior experience implementing neuroscience-specific research methodologies
  • Experience managing animal colonies and tracking complex genotypes
  • Background or strong coursework in neuroscience, molecular biology, or a related scientific discipline

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic molecular biology and biochemical techniques, including genotyping, PCR, and other related assays
  • Participate in and learn about state of the art approaches to studying brain RNA biology, including CLIP, RNA-sequencing
  • Assist biologists with neuroscience-related experiments and the implementation of new research methods
  • Perform brain dissections, optogenetics, stereotaxic injections, combined with precision molecular RNA biology
  • Maintain an organized laboratory space, manage inventory, and ensure compliance with safety and animal welfare protocols
  • Handle rodents, set up experimental matings, perform weaning, and maintain meticulous records of the animal colony

Benefits

  • The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on various factors, including but not limited to organizational budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The hiring range provided represents The Rockefeller University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
