About The Position

The Department of Biomedical Sciences in the College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented undergraduate Research Assistant for a Temporary Hourly Part-Time position. In this role, you will work closely with the Supervisor/Principal Investigator, Dr. Brooke Schmeichel. Dr. Brooke Schmeichel's Addiction, Brain, and Behavior Lab conducts preclinical studies on drug addiction. The lab investigates how changes at the behavior, circuit, cellular, and molecular levels contribute to altered motivation and stress-related negative emotional states that drive compulsive drug seeking.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Minimum GPA of 3.0
• Knowledge of basic laboratory methodology.
• Ability to assist with research projects and compile data.
• Ability to communicate effectively and maintain effective working relationships.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and effective in a team setting.

Nice To Haves

• Interest in neuroscience, biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology, biology, chemistry, or related fields.
• Attention to detail and willingness to learn new laboratory techniques.
• Previous laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with laboratory experiments and research activities
• Assisting hands-on with rodent-based experiments
• Assisting with operation, cleaning, and maintenance of laboratory equipment
• Supporting preparation of formulations, samples, reagents, and laboratory materials
• Data collection and organization
• Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required
• Performs other duties as assigned
