About The Position

The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) is seeking a Research Assistant Scientist for a 12-month, non-tenure-accruing position in the Microbiology and Cell Science Department. This role is 100% research-focused and involves significant work on a tomato project, including field sampling, extractions, and analysis of multi-year data. Additionally, the position will assist with a citrus project, which includes preparing documents for EPA submission, assessing commercial citrus lines, and obtaining FDA label approval. The role also entails contributing to the management of lab personnel and participating in grant writing as a PI or co-PI. As part of the IFAS land-grant mission, the incumbent will be expected to support research, teaching, and extension activities. The University of Florida is a comprehensive research institution with extensive resources, including the HiPerGator 3.0 supercomputer and the interdisciplinary University of Florida Genetics Institute. The Microbiology and Cell Science Department is a large and active department with a strong emphasis on computational and bioinformatics training, and a significant portion of its external funding comes from NASA, positioning the incumbent to leverage local momentum in space sciences and astrobiology.

Requirements

A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in the life sciences, plant science, or other closely related disciplines.
Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication.
Demonstrated publication/dissemination of scholarly work in their field.
Demonstrated experience in a research setting with analysis, visualization, and interpretation of large datasets, preferably of sensitive data types such as student information or patient data.
Must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system.
Must have a commitment to UF core values.

Postdoctoral experience is desirable.
