About The Position

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is seeking a part-time Research Assistant/Programmer to assist with robotics and machine learning research, as well as data collection and data analysis. This project is led by Dr. Yanxi Liu in the School of EECS at Penn State. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research.

Requirements

  • Proficient in Python scripting, data manipulation, and debugging.
  • Experience with NumPy array operations, broadcasting, and vectorization.
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix shell commands, SSH, file structures, and scripting.
  • Experience with version control using GitHub or GitLab.
  • Basic understanding of Linear Algebra (matrix operations).
  • Understanding of coordinate systems (world, camera, image spaces).
  • Knowledge of 3D Transformations (rotation, translation, scaling, homogeneous coordinates).
  • Experience with at least one deep learning framework such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Understanding of neural network architecture (e.g., CNNs), loss functions, optimization, and backpropagation.
  • Understanding of training, evaluation, and debugging deep learning models.
  • Knowledge of computer graphics basics, mesh structure (vertices, faces, normals), and coordinate transformations.
  • Knowledge of local vs. global frames and extrinsics/intrinsics.
