Under general supervision, but following established policies and procedures, performs scientific investigative research in areas related to patient care, supervises activities of subordinate professional and support staff assigned to one or more research projects. Selects, orients, schedules, assigns work and evaluates performance of subordinate research staff. Ensures implementation of approved research program, adherence to research protocols, development and maintenance of study records. Researches literature in the field, participates in the design of experimental protocols and develops new procedures to carry out established research objectives. Conducts experiments using in vitro and or in vivo techniques; collects and analyzes data using statistical methodology. An emphasis on histological and immunohistochemical techniques is preferred. May assist in writing presentations and papers for publication based on the research performed.
