About The Position

The Department of International Health at The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is seeking a Research Assistant. The Research Assistant oversees data collection, data organization, and/or data management or similar functions/tasks for research study(ies) in support of a PI or a research team. This role also involves reviewing translated course materials for accuracy and cultural sensitivity, comparing translations to original content, documenting issues, and supporting the development and implementation of a new Coursera course focused on digital transformation of civil registration and vital statistics systems. The assistant will also develop and design course content in Articulate, Rise, and Coursera.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education permitted by the JHU equivalency formula beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Proficiency in English and French - with excellent written and spoken skills in both languages.
  • Strong attention to detail and a meticulous approach to quality assurance.
  • Ability to maintain consistency in style, tone, and content across translations.

Nice To Haves

  • Enrolled as a student at Johns Hopkins University.
  • Prior translation or quality assurance experience is a plus but not required.
  • Prior experience with course development, graphic design, and ArticulateRise and Coursera.
  • Familiarity with global public health principles and online course development platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Run routine and ad hoc reports.
  • Use standard tools and computer programs to review data.
  • Assist with data cleaning measures to ensure accuracy of data and preparation of tables.
  • Lead basic activities such as data collection and data entry.
  • May lead specific tasks and develop processes to ensure study activities occur effectively and efficiently.
  • May conduct literature searches to support faculty in research efforts.
  • May design and format papers/publications.
  • May assist PIs in writing summaries of papers for release as policy briefs or other channels.
  • Review translated written and audio course materials in French, ensuring accuracy and cultural sensitivity in the translation.
  • Compare translated written content and audio materials to their original English versions, examining for any discrepancies in style, tone, and content.
  • Document/report any issues or improvements needed in the translated content, including suggestions for maintaining consistency in style/tone.
  • Work with the team to support the development and implementation of a new Coursera course focused on digital transformation of civil registration and vital statistics systems.
  • Work with the team to develop and design course content in Articulate, Rise and Coursera.
