About The Position

We are hiring a Research Assistant III (Casual – up 19.5hrs/week - not benefits eligible) to join the UTHealth Houston McGovern Medical School Department of Internal Medicine, General Division in Houston, Texas. In this role, you will support the successful implementation of a "real-world" sponsored clinical research study within a busy outpatient clinical research environment. This position offers exceptional exposure to standard patient care focused on HIV prevention through pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), allowing the successful candidate to gain experience in evidence-based preventive medicine, clinical research operations, and patient-centered care. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and dependable, with a strong understanding of medical terminology, medication review, and clinical documentation. Candidates should demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to accurately follow complex clinical trial procedures while maintaining strict participant confidentiality and data integrity. Previous experience in clinical research or healthcare is preferred but not required for highly motivated candidates with a strong interest in infectious diseases, HIV prevention, or clinical research. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Two (2) years of related experience in a research or clinical lab environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with clinical trials or in healthcare, preferred.
  • Strong interest in infectious diseases, HIV prevention, or clinical research preferred.
  • Knowledge of Excel, Adobe, poster-making skills, PowerPoint, preferred.
  • May substitute required education with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement.
  • May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Under minimal supervision, implements planned research experiments according to research protocol.
  • Maintains accurate and timely records which may include notebooks, records, databases, etc. as needed by the research project. May assist in the preparation and writing of research reports, manuscripts, papers, and grant proposals for presentation and publication.
  • Maintains clean laboratory equipment and/or work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Monitors laboratory and/or other supplies to ensure sufficient inventory to support research projects. Ensures quality of reagents or other supplies.
  • Stays abreast of new and updated procedures and protocols for research laboratory. Must complete required training. May participates in continuing education programs, seminars, and workshops.
  • May provide guidance and training for support staff to ensure efficient, timely and high-quality results.
  • May provide updates to Principal Investigator regarding research progress.
  • Makes independent decisions as required, which may impact research team or assigned project.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
