About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking a Research Assistant III to join their OBGYN Research department. This part-time position will involve both laboratory work and clinical coordination for a study on localized provoked vulvodynia. The role requires a high level of independence, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage and interpret experimental data. The successful candidate will contribute to research projects, assist with data analysis and reporting, and help maintain laboratory organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, with an emphasis on microbiology, biochemistry, immunology, and/or molecular and cellular biology.
  • Experience in laboratory techniques such as cell line and primary cell culture, aseptic technique, microbiological culture, microscopy, nucleic acid isolation (RNA and DNA), standard and quantitative PCR, siRNA knockdown, protein overexpression, flow cytometry, genetic/cloning techniques, protein quantification, Western blot analysis, ELISAs, EIAs, Luminex, primary cell isolation and purification (from human and mouse tissues).
  • Experience with handling mice and performing procedures on mice (subcutaneous injection, anesthesia, treatment applications, pain testing, post-mortem tissue collection, gavage, etc.).
  • Proficiency with routine laboratory calculations.
  • Knowledge of Excel and Word.
  • Great attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous clinical coordinator experience is not required but may be valuable.
  • Experience in other technical or research areas is highly valuable.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate experimental procedures and use laboratory techniques to process experiments.
  • Perform calcium imaging assays.
  • Conduct immunological assays including EIA, ELISA, Luminex, and Flow cytometry.
  • Prepare protein extracts and perform Western Blot analysis.
  • Isolate nucleic acids and perform RT-PCR/PCR.
  • Perform cell and tissue culture.
  • Conduct in vivo mouse model experiments, including injections, anesthesia, treatment applications, pain testing, tissue collection, and gavage.
  • Recruit patients for studies, maintain records, and manage regulatory documents.
  • Analyze and organize experimental data for publication quality.
  • Present analyzed data at lab meetings.
  • Assist with the preparation of charts, graphs, and tables for publications, presentations, and grant applications.
  • Write short sections of text covering methodology or review text pertaining to performed procedures.
  • Maintain laboratory organization, chemical inventories, and protocols.
  • Regularly meet with Dr. Falsetta to discuss project status.
  • Perform literature searches and read primary research articles and reviews to stay updated on project background.

  • Compensation Range: $21.36 - $29.90
