About The Position

The Research Assistant II will serve as a resource in specific knowledge, skills, and behaviors within the department. This role involves performing experiments, analyzing data, and maintaining accurate records of all laboratory work. The assistant will also be responsible for troubleshooting equipment, managing laboratory supplies, and ensuring a clean and organized laboratory environment. Additionally, they will assist in training students and junior personnel, and provide appropriate safety monitoring checks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • May require an Associate degree, vocational training, apprenticeships or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a resource to the department in specific area(s) by demonstrating competence in specific knowledge, skills, and behaviors.
  • Effectively communicate with team members and contribute to their growth by sharing knowledge, experience, and skills.
  • Stay abreast of changes in key systems.
  • Follow research protocol and maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory work and experiments.
  • Analyze data; perform statistical and graphical analysis of data.
  • Design and execute daily laboratory experiments in coordination with senior laboratory personnel.
  • Reproduce and evaluate techniques and results for accuracy.
  • Apply standard protocols to specific experiments, research and improve current methods, and evaluate innovative techniques.
  • Assist in training students and new/junior laboratory personnel in laboratory techniques and equipment operation.
  • Maintain/manage strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders.
  • Respond to requests quickly and effectively.
  • Identify and understand customer needs and expectations and meets them.
  • Communicate any relevant information to clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot and correct erroneous results or problems with laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain cell cultures.
  • Operate standard laboratory equipment.
  • Use and maintain laboratory equipment appropriately.
  • Respond to obviously erroneous results or problems with equipment.
  • Assist in daily operations of the laboratory including answering phone, maintaining lab supplies, organization, and cleanliness.
  • Provide appropriate safety monitoring checks as assigned (radiation safety, biosafety, etc.).
