About The Position

UTHealth Houston's Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is hiring a Research Assistant I for the BD2: Breakthrough Discoveries for Thriving with Bipolar Disorder project. This project aims to deepen the understanding of bipolar type I disorder by collecting information that could lead to improved future treatments. The role involves conducting basic/translational research, potentially including animal work, handling biological samples, performing laboratory experiments, and collecting data according to research protocols.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree required. May substitute required education with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement.
• Ability to perform or willingness to learn phlebotomy (drawing blood).
• General knowledge of research fields.
• Must maintain compliance with required training.

Nice To Haves

• At least 1 year of experience is preferred.
• Experience may include conducting research, including familiarity with IRB/IEC requirements, GCP documentation practices, and basic wet lab skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs laboratory experiments and activities to support research objectives.
• Collects, organizes, and prepares research data for principal investigators and other researchers.
• Updates notebooks, records, and databases as needed.
• Maintains clean laboratory equipment and work area.
• Orders laboratory and other supplies as directed.
• Stays abreast of new and updated procedures and protocols for the research laboratory.
• Maintains compliance with required training.
• May participate in continuing education programs, seminars, and workshops.
• May coordinate the work of technicians to ensure efficient, timely, and high-quality results.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
