Dr. Barbara Sorg is seeking a Research Technician with a background in neuroscience or related discipline (Biology, Biochemistry, Psychology) to contribute to basic science studies on two projects to examine the effects of alcohol and cocaine on the brain and cognition. Strong candidates will have some proficiency with basic laboratory techniques and some experience with rodent behavioral studies or cellular biology methods. The research will be carried out at both Legacy Research Institute and Oregon Health and Sciences University/VA Portland Health Care System. The studies in the Sorg lab focus on the role of the extracellular matrix in cocaine effects on brain circuits and alcohol drinking behavior in research models of addiction. The RA will be working on project at 60% effort until January 2027 and then increase to 100% effort.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry or other field related to specific study, or equivalent experience.
- Background in neuroscience or related discipline (Biology, Biochemistry, Psychology).
- Some proficiency with basic laboratory techniques.
- Some experience with rodent behavioral studies or cellular biology methods.
Responsibilities
- Provide general and technical assistance, clerical support, laboratory maintenance and assist with collection of scientific data.
- Provide, under close supervision of a Principal Investigator, general and technical assistance in support of a specific research program, including clerical tasks; laboratory maintenance; ordering and inventorying laboratory supplies; and production and collection of scientific data.
- Research assistants at this level, unlike higher-level research assistants, would not be expected to perform their own research.
