About The Position

The research assistant I assists the laboratory director and laboratory coordinator with daily activities pertaining to various research, educational and community outreach projects as they pertain to the laboratory’s mission. This role involves maintaining compliance with regulations, assisting with undergraduate instruction and workshop development, and establishing expertise in laboratory testing activities. The assistant will also develop and maintain competence in areas such as AED, CPR, DEXA, laboratory safety, phlebotomy techniques, exercise testing, and biochemistry analysis.

Requirements

• Good academic, social and financial standing with the University required.
• Current enrollment in classes at Lindenwood University required.
• Bachelor’s degree in exercise science or related area required.
• Completion and maintenance of all compliance training (ethics, laboratory safety, etc.) required upon hire.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
• Efficient and expedient communicator via text, email, phone or face-to-face communication regarding laboratory activities.
• Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Highly organized and able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Strong professional integrity and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Ability to exercise good judgment and think critically.
• Competent at word processing (Word, End Note), statistical reports (Excel, GraphPad, SPSS) and nutritional analysis to disseminate research findings to all constituents.
• Understanding of absolute and relative contraindications to exercise testing to maintain compliance with American College of Sports Medicine professional guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Maintains compliance of all research activities with university, state and federal regulations.
• Assists with instruction of undergraduate laboratory activities, grading of undergraduate assignments and the preparation of lectures and teaching materials.
• Assists with development of educational workshops on research testing and all aspects of the research process.
• Establishes and maintains expertise in completion of all laboratory-testing activities according to required protocol.
• Develops and maintains competence and acquires any required professional training related to: AED, CPR, DEXA, laboratory safety and phlebotomy techniques.
• Develops and maintains competence at exercise testing, body composition and biochemistry analysis of samples as they relate to laboratory protocols.
• Assists with internal and external outreach activities to promote the mission of the laboratory and involved activities.
• Initiates as well as collaborates on preparation of all presentations, abstract, data reports and manuscripts.
• Aids in the development of positive University, social media and community presence.
• Assists with development of infographics and other public-facing materials.
• Assists with educating and mentoring of undergraduate research students and volunteers.
• Assists laboratory coordinator in maintaining supply inventory, compliance and maintenance of equipment.
• Assists with proper paper and electronic documentation of all appointments, phone calls, reports, meetings and other activities as they relate to laboratory activities.
• Reviews client health and medical history and using American College of Sports Medicine standards make determination on assessment of risk to perform certain types of exercise.
• Acts as a liaison with other departments and outside agencies.
• Assists other students with developing research-testing protocols.
• Operates as a primary point of contact in completion of all laboratory related tasks, protocols and activities.
• Supports the mission of the university and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence.
• Serves as a positive ambassador of both the Exercise and Performance Nutrition Laboratory, School of Health Sciences and Lindenwood University.
• Job may require other duties as assigned.
