About The Position

The Division of Cardiology has a large research portfolio, with several predominant areas of research including Interventional and Coronary Artery Disease (iCAD), Heart Rhythm, Heart Function and Transplant, Health Services and Heath Outcomes research. At any one time approximately 50-60 projects are being conducted in various stages and areas of research. Our offices are in the Halifax Infirmary. In addition to office-based work on databases and project management, research activities take place within our outpatient clinics, procedure labs, inpatient areas, and pre-assessment clinics. There is ongoing collaboration between our entire research team, Cardiologists, and various health service departments such as Pharmacy, Diagnostic Imagining and Blood Collection. The Research Assistant reports directly to the Research Manager and is under the direction of the Research Coordinator(s) to facilitate the execution of research studies and clinical trial protocols. This position provides ongoing training and educational opportunities as it relates to research and Cardiology and offers the opportunity for advancement.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in post-secondary education in a Health Science and/or Science related field, or completed post-secondary education in a Health Science and/or Science related field
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint), email and internet
  • Effective communication, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to draft, format and edit office correspondence
  • Well-developed organizational, time management and daily planning skills
  • Ability to work well independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Two years’ research related experience preferred
  • CCRP (Certified Clinical Research Professional) or CCRA (Certified Clinical Research Associate) an asset
  • TCPS2: CORE Certification considered an asset
  • Proficiency with current Capital Health systems (STAR, PHS and/or LIS) an asset
  • Previous experience in a health care/research setting is an asset
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
