About The Position

The Georgiev laboratory at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a qualified Research Assistant III (RAIII) to contribute to research projects. This role involves culturing cells, performing molecular biology techniques, expressing and purifying proteins, conducting phage display, flow cytometry, and ELISA assays. The RAIII will also be responsible for preparing reagents, maintaining lab equipment, and managing inventory. The position requires the ability to work independently, follow protocols, record data accurately, and communicate results effectively. Exceptional organizational, communication, and attention to detail skills are essential for functioning within a dynamic research team. The lab's research focuses on using computational approaches to understand immunology and virology, and developing novel ways to fight diseases, including vaccine and antibody product candidates.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience)
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience

Responsibilities

Plan, conduct and evaluate experiments and assays of varying complexity under minimal supervision.
Understand and follow experimental protocols, which may include animal handling and tissue culture.
Record, compile, interpret, and communicate data/results.
Follow University safety protocols, which may include use of combustibles, radioactivity, toxic material, and/or carcinogens.
Perform calculations involving molarity, % solutions, and serial dilutions.
Prepare, operate, and troubleshoot equipment in experimental procedures.
Recommend equipment and supplies needed for research projects.
Read and follow all equipment manuals.
Maintain and repair equipment according to manufacturer and University guidelines.
Ensure the laboratory is prepared for experiments.
Maintain inventories.
Maintain sterile conditions as required.
Prepare reagents.
Assist PI in modifying procedures and techniques.
Recognize problems and suggest solutions, assist in modifications.
Recommend improvements to established techniques and/or protocols.
Maintain personal knowledge of scientific trends through literature reviews, attendance at meetings, conferences and seminars.
Provide appropriate written/oral documentation of experiments.
Prepare research progress reports.
Analyze and summarize test results.
Preparation and oral presentation of data as required.
Assist in the effective operation of the laboratory.
Train other employees.
Supervise projects and/or personnel.
