About The Position

Prof. Bhushan Nagar's laboratory has an opening for a part-time (25 hours per week) Research Assistant 2 position for someone with the expertise in structural biology, protein biochemistry, and advanced imaging techniques, complemented by strong project coordination, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration skills. The duties include: Maintain insect cell culture for the laboratory with minimal (under the supervision of a Research Associate) or no supervision. Assist with collaborative structural biology projects with other groups. Assist with lab ordering of materials and supplies. Assistance in maintaining and managing minor repairs of laboratory equipment. Ensure compliance with biosafety, chemical safety, and institutional regulations within the laboratory. Perform structural biology experiments to assist graduate students and other lab researchers with their projects.

Requirements

  • MSc in Structural Biology or similar field. Those who have completed a PhD in the recent years will also be considered.
  • Strong experience structural analysis of proteins using cryo-EM.
  • Strong experience in protein biochemistry including protein expression, purification and biophysical characterization.
  • Cell culture experience for the purpose of producing proteins for structural analysis.
  • Familiarity with cryo-EM process software such as CryoSparc, Relion
  • Experience with Fluorescence microscopy.
  • Experience with Mass spectrometry.
  • Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #4 (qualifier) on a scale of 0-4.
  • Authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based / located.
