About The Position

This position provides support for specified research projects under direct supervision. The role involves collecting, assessing, and communicating data and results, as well as assisting in general laboratory operations and inventory. The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is dedicated to providing outstanding medical care, training clinicians and researchers, and performing cutting-edge research to improve understanding of digestive diseases. The division comprises nearly 80 physician-scientists, clinician-educators, medical center clinicians, advanced practice providers, and research-track investigators, all working towards innovative biomedical research, education and training, and exceptional patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Less than 1 year of relevant work experience

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, run experiments, assays, and record results
  • Read and follow experimental protocols (May include animal handling, tissue culture, etc.)
  • Compile and communicate results to supervisor
  • Follow University safety protocols (may include use of combustibles, radioactivity, toxic material, and/or carcinogenics)
  • Perform calculations involving molarity, % solutions, and serial dilutions
  • Prepare and operate equipment in experimental procedures
  • May include blood gas analyzer, centrifuge, pH meter, spectrophotometer, autoclave, scintillation counter, electrophoresis unit, analytical balance, etc.
  • Maintain and repair equipment according to manufacturer and university guidelines.
  • Ensure Laboratory is prepared for experiments
  • Maintain inventories
  • Maintain sterile conditions as required
  • Prepare reagents
  • Clean equipment.
