About The Position

The Department of Social Studies of Medicine is seeking a Research Assistant 1 to support the research project, "The History of the Jewish Quota at McGill University." The successful candidate will conduct archival research, identify and analyze historical materials, and assist with the collection and documentation of relevant sources. The Research Assistant will work closely with the Principal Investigator and members of the research team.

Requirements

• Possess a Bachelor's degree in Information Studies, History, or a related discipline.
• Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience in historical research, archival research, or an academic research environment is required; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct research projects using established protocols, processes, and procedures.
• Experience working with archival materials, historical collections, and primary source documents.
• Strong ability to analyze and interpret research data and findings and communicate results effectively.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare research materials, reports, presentations, and knowledge dissemination products for diverse audiences.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary and multicultural research environments.
• Strong organizational and project coordination skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing research priorities.
• Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #4 (qualifier) on a scale of 0-4.

Responsibilities

• Conduct archival research in support of the project, The History of the Jewish Quota at McGill University, by identifying, locating, and evaluating relevant archival and historical materials.
• Analyze and interpret research data and findings derived from archival sources, historical records, and related documentation, and contribute to the preparation of research notes and summaries.
• Implement established research methodologies and procedures for the collection, organization, documentation, and preservation of archival research materials.
• Compile and maintain research documentation, including digital copies and photographs of archival materials, ensuring accuracy and completeness of project records.
• Participate in regular meetings with the Principal Investigator and research team to discuss research progress, findings, and project priorities.
• May provide technical guidance and training to student researchers involved in archival research activities and related project tasks.
• Perform various administrative tasks related to the research project, including scheduling research activities, tracking sources, and maintaining research files.
• Perform various administrative tasks related to research projects.
