About The Position

This part-time position, spanning 9 months, involves contributing to a research project focused on the role of language technologies and generative AI in supporting French-language use among graduate students in minority-language contexts. The role requires assisting with research ethics submissions, participant recruitment and communication, coordinating research activities, data collection, literature reviews, data analysis, and preparing research summaries and dissemination materials. The position is located at McGill University, 680 Sherbrooke West.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies, Applied Linguistics, Translation Studies, Education, Digital Humanities, Information Studies, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated knowledge of language technologies, machine translation, generative AI, multilingual communication, or related digital communication technologies.
Experience supporting academic or applied research projects.
Familiarity with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and English.
Native level proficiency in French, both written and spoken.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a research team.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to research ethics and confidentiality.
Proficiency with standard digital productivity tools and online collaboration platforms.
Must be authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based / located.

Nice To Haves

Experience conducting participant recruitment, surveys, interviews, focus groups, or other human-subject research activities.
Experience with qualitative or quantitative data analysis software.
Experience with language technologies, machine translation, generative AI tools, or multilingual content creation workflows.
Experience preparing conference presentations, reports, policy briefs, or scholarly publications.
Knowledge of official language minority communities in Canada.
Prior experience working on funded research projects.
Current students enrolled in the Master of Science (Applied) in Applied Digital Communication (M.Sc.A.) program at McGill University.

Responsibilities

Assisting with research ethics (REB) submissions, amendments, renewals, and related documentation.
Supporting the development and implementation of participant recruitment strategies and recruitment materials.
Recruiting and communicating with research participants.
Coordinating research activities, including scheduling interviews, focus groups, training activities, and data collection sessions.
Assisting in the preparation, administration, and management of surveys, focus groups, interviews, and other data collection instruments.
Maintaining accurate research records and project documentation in accordance with ethical and institutional requirements.
Conducting literature reviews and environmental scans related to the topic of the project.
Assisting with quantitative and qualitative data analysis using appropriate research methodologies and software.
Contributing to the piloting of online training materials related to language technology literacy.
Preparing research summaries, reports, presentations, knowledge mobilization materials, and project documentation.
Supporting dissemination and knowledge mobilization activities, including conference presentations, stakeholder communications, and project reporting.
Collaborating with the Principal Investigator, Academic Associate, and project partners on research-related activities.
Participating in regular project meetings and providing progress updates.
Performing translation, linguistic revision, and terminology-related tasks directly related to the project, when required.
Assisting with the preparation of conference presentations.
Assisting with the preparation of scholarly outputs arising from the project (optional).
Representing the project at academic and professional events, including the presentation of research findings where appropriate.
Other tasks can be assigned as needed.
