About The Position

Under moderate supervision, this role provides animal husbandry, breeds transgenic mice, genotypes mice by PCR, performs blood pressure measurements in mice, performs basic animal surgery, collects tissues and blood samples, analyzes protein concentration, and performs plate reader-based tests. The Division of Genetic Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology is a robust and dynamic division, innovating across its research and clinical missions to integrate genome variation and function to better define biological mechanisms of human disease. A leader in personalized medicine, the division aims to understand how basic molecular, biochemical and cellular processes are altered in various pathological conditions, seeking to identify novel therapeutic interventions for human diseases. The division is closely tied to the Vanderbilt Genetics Institute, which leads the nation in mapping the complex interactions between our genome and human health.

Requirements

  • B.S. with minimum of 1-year of animal lab work.
  • Experience in mice husbandry, genotyping mice, breed transgenic mice, tissue collection, preparations of blood and vessels samples.

Responsibilities

  • Provide animal husbandry, breed transgenic mice, genotype mice.
  • Perform studies on mice related to diet, analysis of blood pressure and vessels.
  • Assist with planning and collecting cells and tissue samples for biomedical assays.
  • Assistance with preparation and processing of biological samples for PCR and Western blot.
  • Maintain cell cultures and tissue culture.
  • Assist with data collection and data processing using Excel and Word documents.
  • Maintain inventory records, laboratory supplies and initiates purchase to replenish supplies.
