Research Analyst

Amentum•Indianapolis, IN
•$128,000 - $140,000

About The Position

As a Research Analyst, you will turn all-source counter-unmanned systems (C-UxS) information into analytical products that inform Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of Defense (DoD) technology acquisition and the development of tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs). You will work with Amentum, government and industry partners, vendors, and subject matter experts as part of Amentum’s Center of Excellence for Counter Unmanned Systems. Your findings will be shared with senior decision-makers. The role analyzes UxS movement data, geospatial sensor information, and other intelligence sources; develops threat forecasts and predictive assessments; and translates findings into recommendations for resource allocation, sensor placement, technology acquisition, and operational practice. It also supports technology assessment and capability development, operations research, modeling and simulation, program planning, exercises, evaluation, and RDT&E activities relevant to DHS missions. The Research Analyst communicates complex findings to senior government and industry leaders, follows applicable laws and policies governing information collection, intelligence analysis, and law enforcement activities in the United States, may supervise analytical and technical staff as assigned, and travels domestically and internationally as required.

Requirements

  • Active Secret U.S. Government clearance; U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a Secret clearance.
  • Ability to pass DHS Entry on Duty requirements and maintain Public Trust suitability.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of all-source intelligence analysis and production experience, including DHS and/or DoD experience.
  • Experience with commercial or government GIS tools such as ArcGIS, and with OSINT and other data sources across the intelligence cycle.
  • Track record of producing high-quality deliverables for senior policymakers, including complex written products and formal or informal briefings, independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong research, analytical, interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills; close attention to detail; and ability to anticipate customer needs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Nice To Haves

  • Active Top Secret clearance and active Public Trust designation.
  • Knowledge of C-UxS methods, industry leaders, and U.S. Government authorities.
  • Understanding of sUAS threats and the electronic and communications systems, components, and materials relevant to DHS missions.
  • Familiarity with DHS, DoD, or other law enforcement C-UxS efforts over the past five years.
  • Experience with DHS GII, Aerial Armor, Hidden Level, or similar UAS detection and monitoring services.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze structured and unstructured UxS movement data, geospatial sensor information, and supplementary intelligence sources to produce actionable analysis.
  • Brief decision-makers on UxS movement trends, entities, areas of interest, and threat patterns through reports, presentations, and research projects.
  • Conduct predictive and anticipatory analysis of emerging threats, potential operational activities, and likely changes in adversary TTPs.
  • Identify patterns, anomalies, and indicators of potential future UxS activity by integrating historical movement data, geospatial information, environmental conditions, and other intelligence.
  • Develop threat forecasts and risk assessments concerning vulnerabilities, operational challenges, and surveillance, detection, or mitigation needs.
  • Apply trend analysis, pattern-of-life assessments, and temporal and geospatial modeling to anticipate changes in UxS employment, operating environments, and threat behavior.
  • Develop and apply predictive models, statistical forecasting techniques, and AI-enabled analytical tools to assess UxS activities, operational trends, and threats.
  • Conduct scenario-based and anticipatory assessments, identify early-warning indicators, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Establish and monitor indicators and warnings to identify emerging threats, capability changes, and shifts in operational activity.
  • Translate predictive assessments into recommendations for resource allocation, sensor placement, technology acquisition, and TTP development.
  • Validate predictive models using historical data and performance metrics, and refine them to improve accuracy, reliability, and operational utility.
  • Partner with government and industry stakeholders to define research objectives, data collection methodologies, analytical requirements, and reporting standards.
  • Turn analytical findings into recommendations for C-UxS technology development, acquisition, selection, and operational employment.
  • Develop and manage multi-phase technology implementation roadmaps across business units, translating functional requirements into system configurations.
  • Assess emerging AI, machine learning, and other technologies for potential improvements to C-UxS detection, tracking, classification, and analysis.
  • Identify capability gaps by comparing projected threats with existing and planned technologies, operational concepts, and system performance.
  • Support technology investment and acquisition decisions by forecasting operational requirements and evaluating potential C-UxS solutions.
  • Apply operations research, systems analysis, statistical modeling, and quantitative methods to operational and technical challenges.
  • Support business process improvement, performance management, statistical process control, organizational assessment, and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct modeling and simulation, strategic planning, operational analysis, and decision support.
  • Develop scenarios and simulations to assess threat evolution, operational impacts, and countermeasure effectiveness.
  • Assist with program planning and oversight, exercise development and execution, and program evaluation.
  • Support system-level analysis and integration, including assessments of emerging threats, system vulnerabilities, and operational effectiveness.
  • Provide technical assessment and evaluation support for government acquisition and RDT&E activities addressing DHS mission requirements.
  • Communicate complex analytical findings, predictive assessments, and operational recommendations to senior government and industry leadership.
  • Conduct work in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and restrictions governing information collection, intelligence analysis, and law enforcement activities within the United States.
  • Supervise analytical and technical staff as assigned.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required.
