About The Position
AACTE is seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Research Analyst to support our federal and state advocacy work, research publications, and membership engagement initiatives. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys analyzing complex policy issues, working with data, and translating insights into clear, accessible information for diverse audiences. As a key member of AACTE’s advocacy and research teams, you’ll contribute to federal and state policy tracking, data analytics, publications, member guidance, and professional learning resources that support educator preparation programs nationwide.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Education Policy, Public Policy, Economics, Sociology, or related field OR equivalent professional experience.
- Strong ability to analyze policy language and communicate it clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Significant experience analyzing large datasets; familiarity with federal datasets (IPEDS, Title II, NPSAS) preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and at least one statistical package (SAS or SPSS).
- Working knowledge of Tableau, including experience producing interactive dashboards.
- Experience designing and implementing surveys.
- Excellent written communication skills.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with the U.S. Department of Education or similar policy institutions.
- Knowledge of educator preparation policy, Title II data, and teacher workforce issues.
- Experience contributing to publications or policy briefs.
- Background in advocacy or public affairs work.
- Prior grant-writing experience.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and data analysis to inform policy papers and federal policy change recommendations.
- Track proposed and enacted federal legislation/regulations and analyze potential impacts.
- Draft member-facing guidance (briefs, summaries, FAQs) on federal policy issues.
- Prepare background materials for webinars, virtual learning sessions, and member resources.
- Support federal advocacy activities during Washington Week and AACTE’s Annual Meeting.
- Contribute content to AACTE’s Talks Policy newsletter.
- Assist Government Relations PAC efforts through data preparation, monitoring, and meeting support.
- Prepare policy research, talking points, and data for the State Leaders Institute, ACSR sessions, and other state-focused events.
- Provide analytical support for presentations on state and federal policy trends.
- Support administrative processes for state affiliates (awards, nominations, reporting).
- Track state policy issues affecting educator preparation programs and prepare summaries/alerts.
- Provide documentation and materials for ACSR regional and Executive Committee meetings.
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses for up to two AACTE publications annually (e.g., e-books, briefs, policy papers).
- Support expansion of AACTE’s data collection and analytic infrastructure.
- Draft narrative content, data visualizations, charts, and figures for publications.
- Assist with media inquiries related to educator preparation data or trends.
- Support research-based presentations for webinars, conferences, and partner events.
- Represent AACTE in meetings requiring research and data expertise.
- Prepare research materials or summaries for AACTE’s participation in Pathways Alliance and other partner engagements.
- Draft meeting notes, background briefs, and talking points to strengthen AACTE’s policy voice.
