About The Position

The student will focus on developing and applying in-line UV-Vis spectroscopy to monitor and evaluate selective lanthanide separations using capacitive deionization (CDI). Day-to-day work will include setting up and operating a UV-Vis system, developing calibration and validation protocols, and integrating the UV-Vis system with a flow-through electrochemical cell. The student will help to run experiments to establish baseline CDI performance, evaluate functionalized electrodes for selective lanthanide separations in single and mixed-cation systems, and analyze data to quantify selectivity differences. Additional responsibilities may include literature review, experimental design, and organizing experimental data.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited institution.
  • Graduated from an accredited institution within the past 3 months; or actively enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution.
  • Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins.
  • Must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must pass a screening drug test
  • Must complete a satisfactory background check
