About The Position

Performs specialized work in conducting original research. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants. Full-time seasonal fieldwork position. The successful applicant will assist in a study examining the influence of an integrated intensive management program on Northern Bobwhite demographics. This job will entail trapping, banding, and tracking northern bobwhite through rugged terrain using both VHF and GPS telemetry. Lodging provided. This is a field position which requires independent thinking and the ability to be comfortable working alone as well as with small teams while living in a semi-remote location. The study site is 1.5 hours east of Lubbock, Texas.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a specialized field.
One year research experience.
Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof.
Ability to problem-solve and work independently (potentially outside of cell service).
Ability to work in a wide range of inclement conditions including hot and cold temperatures.
Ability to hike over rough terrain.
Ability to work very early mornings.
Ability to be comfortable working alone as well as with small teams while living in a semi-remote location.

Responsibilities

Trap, band, and place necklace style radio-transmitters and GPS backpack transmitters on northern bobwhites.
Conduct nest cover vegetation surveys using common vegetation sampling techniques.
Perform radio telemetry.
Enter data and maintain records using Microsoft Excel, OneDrive, and other typical office software.
Bait and check box style meso-mammal live traps.
Use and perform basic upkeep of UTVs and 4x4 trucks.
