About The Position

Provides pre-award support for the 5 academic departments in the College of Science. These services include support for proposal development and submission, providing pre-award guidance for faculty, serving as a point of contact for LSU’s Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), Office of Research & Economic Development (ORED), and Sponsored Program Accounting (SPA), as well as research pre-award specialists at other institutions, and support for non-financial post-award activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Superior customer service and ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to translate complex requirements into clear and actionable recommendations
  • Attention to detail and ability to succeed in a deadline-driven environment
  • One (1) year of related experience in research administration or grant management in a university setting
  • Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply— a degree is not required as long as the candidate meets the required years of experience specified in the job description.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree
  • Three (3) years of experience in pre-award research administration with federal grant applications, particularly NSF, NIH, NASA, and DOE
  • Thorough understanding of federal grant regulations and their implementation in the higher education setting

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate proposal development and processing for approval, signature, and submission to external sponsors for College of Science departments with limited supervision; prepare proposal packages in sponsor portal; assist faculty in routing proposals through InfoEd (GeauxGrants) to meet internal and external deadlines; review proposals for compliance with sponsor requests and College/University procedures/policies; assist in obtaining University waivers, cost-sharing commitments, and special approvals; assists in resolving issues through discussions with faculty and administrators.
  • Provide administrative support for College of Science grants and contracts; transmit account requests and University forms to OSP for approval and submission; receive, review, and forward notifications for all awards; route contracts and amendments for faculty and University approval; assist in preparing and processing subcontract and award forms; coordinate with the departments regarding post-award management.
  • Maintain College of Science records for proposals and awards; assist with research reporting; assist with website maintenance; assist with developing training materials; serve as back-up support for other research administration specialists.
  • Serve as liaison between faculty, staff, College of Science Dean’s Office, the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED), and Sponsored Program Accounting (SPA) for individual proposals. Keep abreast of federal, agency-specific, and university research regulations and requirements; attend appropriate seminars, trainings, workshops, and webinars.
