About The Position

Part-time, $19.00 an hour. Paid time off. Free museum passes and discounts. The purpose of this position is to ensure the safety of all in-water activities for Space Camp, Space Academy, Advanced Academy, Robotics Space Camp, Aviation Challenge, and all additional programs that participate in Aquatics-based activities; and perform daily tasks required for the upkeep and maintenance. Rescue Divers will be required to pass both a written and skills test demonstrating the physical and technical skills necessary to carry out emergency procedures before hiring. Work below the surface of water, using breath-holding/control techniques, surface-supplied air, or scuba equipment to inspect, repair, remove, or install equipment and structures, or aid those in need of assistance and/or rescue.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Lifeguard, Advanced Rescue Diver, First Aid, CPR, BBP, O2 Administration certifications.
  • Experience as a lifeguard or dive professional with rescue skills.
  • Supervisory experience in aquatic settings.
  • Familiarity with managing dive equipment and engaging with customers in recreational or safety-focused environments.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Skin Diver certification from an accredited agency (e.g., PADI or NAUI) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond accordingly to emergencies in which assistance or first aid is required within the scope of certified training and Rocket Center policies and procedures.
  • Prevent accidents and injuries through knowledge of lifeguarding and water safety skills.
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies employing visual and audio surveillance.
  • Must be able to not allow anything to distract them from their concentration and attention to duties.
  • Must be able to identify emergencies both visually and audibly, and then respond appropriately.
  • Promptly enforce all Rocket Center Aquatic rules and policies that apply to all situations courteously and tactfully.
  • Utilize discipline procedures that are reasonable and appropriate as stated in the procedure manual.
  • Take appropriate safety precautions, such as monitoring dive lengths and depths and documentation of all pertinent information before diving expeditions begin.
  • Check and maintain diving equipment, such as helmets, masks, air tanks, harnesses, or gauges.
  • Communicate with workers on the surface while underwater, using hand signals, written communication, or audio equipment.
  • Obtain information about diving tasks and environmental conditions.
  • Supervise or train other divers, including hobby divers.
  • Inspect the condition of underwater structures.
  • Assist in setting up dive sites for recreational instruction.
  • Monitor work areas or procedures to ensure compliance with safety procedures.
  • Clean equipment, parts, tools, and other work equipment to repair or maintain them in good working order.
  • Communicate with coworkers to coordinate installations or repairs.
  • Train others in operational procedures.
  • Test mechanical equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Record images needed to address work issues.
  • Attach rigging to objects so they can be moved.
  • Repair production equipment or tools.
  • Organize recreational activities or events.
  • This role involves supervising and training divers, enforcing safety protocols, and ensuring compliance with Rocket Center policies for all attendees, guests, and customers, especially in emergencies.
  • Responsibilities include monitoring work areas, coordinating tasks, guiding team members in operational procedures, and upholding a safe environment for everyone on-site.
  • Additionally, the role requires overseeing equipment maintenance, documenting dive activities, and organizing recreational events while maintaining effective communication with the team and providing a safe, enjoyable experience for all visitors.
