This position provides support by performing various clerical duties, data entry, scheduling tests, and discharge functions within unit operations to ensure a smooth, efficient, and customer-responsive patient flow of services. The role involves interacting with all visitors, coworkers, and other departments in a customer-friendly manner, acknowledging individuals, providing assistance and directions, and helping find resources. Key duties include handling telephone calls promptly and courteously, making and scheduling appointments for patients, treatments, procedures, and consultations, and ensuring proper patient disposition for diagnostic tests. The representative maintains identified patient records, including assembling/disassembling charts, ensuring proper form order and quantity, submitting correct forms, retrieving and attaching lab results, and transcribing data from electronic medical records. The role also involves managing patient census by alerting staff of arrivals, maintaining current information on arrivals, discharges, or transfers, and accurately entering this data into the computer system. The individual will utilize computer and related equipment to update, revise, and maintain patient information, including transferring/discharging patients, selecting patients, entering/canceling orders/charges, and displaying results and pharmacy medication profiles. Effective communication with patients, families, and hospital staff is crucial, adhering to iRESPECT standards. The position requires establishing and maintaining floor inventory of forms and supplies, preparing requisitions, verifying received supplies, and restocking areas. Maintaining confidentiality of patient, department, and hospital information in compliance with HIPPA and other policies is essential. The representative must complete required continuous training and education, participate in performance improvement activities, transport mail, records, and reports, and maintain a clean, orderly, safe environment, adhering to established policies, compliance, quality improvement, patient safety, environment, and infection control standards. Coverage for relief and absences is also required. Additionally, Patient Service Clerks assigned to the Nursery will be responsible for managing the hospital’s birth certificate process, obtaining accurate parent/child information, filing it with the State of Tennessee within 30 days of birth, and providing parents with a Mother’s copy of the birth certificate prior to discharge, all while adhering to state birth certificate protocols.
