About The Position

The Reporting/Analytics Manager is a senior finance professional charged with optimizing and overseeing the firm’s financial planning and analysis processes. This pivotal role requires a nuanced understanding of the legal services industry, including client billing structures, client/matter profitability, and partner compensation dynamics—to provide thorough, actionable insights and tools that support the firm’s strategic and operational goals. The Reporting/Analytics Manager collaborates closely with firm leadership, practice group heads, and administrative teams to ensure financial decisions align with both short- and long-term objectives. The Reporting/Analytics Manager optimizes and oversees the firm’s financial planning and analysis processes. This position provides thorough, actionable insights and tools that support the firm’s strategic and operational goals. As a senior finance professional, the Reporting/Analytics Manager collaborates closely with firm leadership, practice group heads, and administrative teams to ensure financial decisions align with both short- and long-term objectives. This role reports to the Senior Director, Pricing and Financial Planning & Analysis and will be based onsite/hybrid in the Washington, DC office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. Knowledge of law firm finance and operations is a distinct advantage.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in financial planning & analysis, ideally within a professional services environment such as a law firm, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Proven ability to build and manage financial models tailored to law firm operations, and proficiency with advanced data analysis tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Tableau).
  • Experience with legal financial management systems (e.g., Elite or Aderant) or similar enterprise platforms, with a track record of process improvement and system optimization.
  • Outstanding analytical, communication, and presentation skills, capable of translating complex financial information into clear recommendations for legal professionals.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic law firm environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the legal services industry, including client billing structure, client/matter profitability, and partner compensation dynamics
  • Absolute integrity and discretion in handling sensitive financial and client information.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) specific to legal operations, including utilization rates, collection cycles, and timekeeper performance.
  • Supports the integration and optimization of financial systems to improve the accuracy and efficiency of reporting and analysis.
  • Supports the annual budgeting and multi-year financial planning processes, incorporating analysis of billable hours, fee arrangements, and life cycles to ensure financial targets and strategic priorities are met.
  • Analyzes monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, with a focus on revenue per lawyer, realization rates, and profitability; prepares executive-level presentations for firm partners and management committees.
  • Develops advanced financial models to support key initiatives and goals.
  • Collaborates with attorneys, operations, marketing, human resources, and IT teams on special projects as needed.
  • Ensures integrity and compliance in financial reporting, adhering to relevant accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements specific to professional services firms.
  • Supervises and mentors financial analysts, providing coaching and development to support a high-performing finance function within the firm
