This role requires an exceptional reporter skilled in building trust with sources, breaking news, and transforming complex information into compelling narratives. While a background in tech is not mandatory, a proven ability to excel in areas like politics, finance, or national security is valued. The reporter will cover OpenAI's leadership, business operations, AI advancements, product launches, policy engagements, and societal impact. This position involves working within a collaborative newsroom, alongside other AI and tech reporters, to set industry coverage standards. The Information has a history of extensive OpenAI coverage, including scoops on upcoming products, internal company dynamics, and technological challenges. The role offers a unique opportunity to cover a company poised for a major IPO and to significantly raise the reporter's national profile.
Requirements
- A proven track record of breaking news and building high-level sources who trust you with hard information — on any beat.
- Fierce curiosity about power, money, and how institutions really work.
- The judgment and analytical rigor to make sense of complex, fast-moving stories and tell them clearly.
- The drive and discipline to juggle fast-turn scoops alongside ambitious, high-impact investigations.
- Based in, or willing to relocate to, the San Francisco Bay Area.
