About The Position

WBUR is seeking a reporter with a passion for covering state politics, including the governor's office and the state legislature. This role will lead WBUR's coverage of the 2026 gubernatorial race, focusing on developing scoops, producing enterprise stories, and responding to breaking news. The position requires building sources, covering activity at the State House in person, reviewing documents and data, and submitting public records requests. The reporter will collaborate with editors on daily and longer-term stories, utilizing multiple formats including audio, digital, live events, and social media. The ideal candidate is innovative in reaching audiences, skilled in building diverse sources, and adept at competitive, enterprise coverage.

Responsibilities

Cover Beacon Hill and state political news, including the governor and governor's office, and the state legislature.
Lead WBUR's coverage of the 2026 gubernatorial race.
Develop scoops and produce regular enterprise stories.
Respond quickly and smartly to breaking news.
Build sources and cover activity at the State House in person.
Review documents and data and submit public records requests.
Work closely with editors to set priorities and pursue daily and shorter-term pieces.
