About The Position
WSPA-TV, 7News in Spartanburg/Greenville, South Carolina, has an immediate opening for an experienced broadcast and digital journalist to join its team as a multimedia journalist/reporter. The role produces, reports, shoots, writes, voices, edits, and feeds news production content for all platforms in a clear, engaging, and meaningful way for news consumers. The journalist reports news stories for broadcast and develops content for web and social media. The position requires researching stories, arranging interviews, gathering information from a variety of sources and events, and pitching stories relevant to the local community. The reporter works with producers and news managers to establish priorities and ensures content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to ad lib when required.
- Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, and other office equipment.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Flexibility to work any shift.
- Experienced broadcast and digital journalist.
Responsibilities
- Report news stories for broadcast, describing the background and details of events.
- Arrange interviews with people who can provide information about stories.
- Review copy and correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation in accordance with editorial style and formatting guidelines.
- Research and analyze background information related to news stories to provide complete and accurate information.
- Gather information through research, interviews, experience, or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social, or other functions.
- Pitch stories relevant to the local community to news managers and news producers.
- Receive assignments and evaluate leads and tips to develop story ideas.
- Discuss issues with producers and/or news managers to establish priorities or positions.
- Produce and present reports for all platforms.
- Ensure content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
- Write stories for the web and other social media platforms.
- Interact with viewers and users on social media sites.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Produce, report, shoot, write, voice, edit, and feed news production content for all platforms.
