About The Position

STERIS’ On Location Repair Technician II performs surgical instrument inspection, repair and refurbishment in a field-based setting using a mobile repair lab/truck. This role performs intermediate repairs with increasing independence, supports Customer-facing service execution as required, and maintains accurate documentation. This position may require occasional overnight travel and requires daily travel by driving a company vehicle. If offered this position, STERIS will run a 7 year driving record check, as part of our onboarding process. This is a safety sensitive position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least 2 years relevant repair/ mechanical experience (or equivalent), including demonstrated progression beyond entry level Repair Technician
  • Ability to work independently on intermediate repairs while following escalation and documentation standards
  • Must be able to lift up to 50-100 pounds at times and push instrument rolling carts ranging from 10-150 pounds at times
  • Must be able to meet flexible schedules with early/late hours, sometimes outside normal business hours, including nights and weekends, based on Customer needs
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years old with the ability to meet FMCSA/DOT and drivers license requirements
  • Must be able to pass a DOT medical/ physical exam, comply with all DOT regulations and conduct basic box truck safety checks
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. CDL required where applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of experience with surgical instrument repair with validation of skills
  • Experience with surgical instruments or certification as CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician)/SPD is highly desirable
  • Related certifications in a technical or mechanical field, competitive equipment training or relevant military experience may be considered toward the experience requirement

Responsibilities

  • Support billing/invoicing documentation and complete end-of-day reporting such as the OAR, consistent with Customer and contractual requirements
  • Perform repairs found within level one (Repair Technician I) of the skills matrix, on a regular cadence, while consistently meeting STERIS quality standards
  • Perform intermediate level repairs and maintenance of surgical instruments using approved techniques, tools, and testing methods within training and demonstrated capability
  • Conduct standardized inspection and testing procedures to ensure functioning and conformance within specified standards
  • Identify risks and issues and escalates timely and effectively, as well as supporting corrective actions to reduce rework and improve quality
  • Demonstrate effective judgment and problem solving related to technical work and Customer commitments, as well as escalate higher-risk decisions to Team Lead/Area Service Manager (ASM)
  • Abide by all Company safety and health policies, using PPE and completes safety observations per site requirements
  • While your primarily working inside a mobile repair truck, frequent trips inside the hospital are required
