Requirements

Knowledge of various hand and power tools.
Skilled in using tools and equipment in maintenance and repair work.
Skilled in operations and preventive maintenance of vehicles and/or mechanized equipment.
Ability to maintain and/or repair bridges, signs, roadways and/or other highway structures.
Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to work from lift equipment and ladders, climb stairs, and work at heights of 50 feet or greater.
Ability to push, pull and lift 50 pounds from ground level.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl and/or bend on a frequent basis.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Ability to work in high volume traffic.
Ability to walk on various unlevel terrains.
To be in compliance with the District Two Loss Prevention Procedure and be aware of reducing personal injury and vehicular accidents.
The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
Obtains Certification in Maintenance of Traffic — Intermediate Level within one year and maintains.
This position will be required to respond before, during and following emergency situations.
A Class E Driver's License is required at the time of hire.
A CDL (Commercial Driver's License) Class B License Instructional Permit is required within 60 days of appointment to the position and obtain a CDL Class B License with air brakes within 10 months of appointment.
This position requires a valid Class E driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy.
Male applicants born on or after October 1, 1962, will not be eligible for hire or promotion in the Career Service, or appointment in the Selected Exempt Service (SES) or Senior Management Service (SMS), unless they are registered with the Selective Service System (SSS) before their 26th birthday, or have a Letter of Registration Exemption from the SSS.

Responsibilities

Performs all related tasks associated with the maintenance and repair of various highway structures and other roadway assets.
Requires using a variety of tools, preparing materials, equipment and maintaining communication with local units, coworkers and/or other crews.
Train new employees by providing guidance and technical assistance.
Assumes duties of supervisor in his/her absence as required to include completion of daily crew sheets.
Operates and performs preventive maintenance on a variety of vehicles, mechanized equipment and power tools.
