About The Position

The primary function of this position is to troubleshoot, remove, install, replace, re-build, repair, & test parts/equipment on construction equipment at an advanced level while working in the field. This role involves using various tools and resources to diagnose and repair equipment, performing preventative maintenance, and documenting repair activities.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED.
  • Six years of experience with at least two years of experience on Cat equipment or other similar equipment.
  • Proficient in at least two mechanical systems (i.e. transmissions, engines, hydraulics, etc.) for numerous model lines.
  • Ability to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend, and climb beside, onto, and underneath various equipment.
  • Ability to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports.
  • Ability to routinely and physically lift/position various parts and manually handle parts up to 112 pounds, and manually handle parts up to 100 pounds, as well as use a mechanical hoist for heavier parts.
  • Ability to effectively document repair activities on customer work orders.
  • Cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills to apply knowledge, written information, and verbal instructions in repairing/servicing unusual and/or unknown technical equipment operational problems.
  • Basic proficiency using P.C. base equipment and parts information.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to daily operate an assigned service vehicle.
  • Ability to operate assigned vehicle for extended periods.
  • Ability to effectively communicate using telephones.
  • Ability to effectively deal directly with customers at site locations in a professional manner.
  • Valid state driver’s license (obtain within 30 days of hire a valid license within the state of GPEC’s operation).
  • Possess a safe driving record that meets the safe driving standards outlined in the GPEC Fleet Policy.
  • Operation of some vehicles will require a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Some positions may require a DOT medical certification before being considered for the position.
  • All positions that require driving for company business or within a Company Owned Vehicle will be held to the standards of the GPEC Fleet Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, remove, install, replace, re-build, repair, & test parts/equipment on construction equipment at an advanced level.
  • Check equipment and supplies required to perform scheduled work, comply with PPE requirements, and prepare for duties.
  • Use manuals, repair manuals, parts manuals, and parts diagrams to troubleshoot construction equipment.
  • Use lift trucks, overhead cranes, & other aids to lift or move parts into position for repair.
  • Use hand & power tools to remove, install, replace, re-build, repair, & test parts/equipment.
  • Reference multiple resources and computers for parts information and data entry into record systems.
  • Disassemble/re-assemble parts or equipment, clean parts, and use test equipment for diagnostic checks.
  • Perform repairs using powered equipment or tools.
  • Climb onto, under, & into vehicles to gain access to all parts.
  • Use overhead hoists, lift devices, forklifts & other aids to move items off vehicles and to locations for disassembly, repair, and reassembly.
  • Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, change oil, replace filters, belts, coolants, and hoses.
  • Drain/clean/refill fuel systems.
  • Use welders to weld frames and power grinders to grind welds smooth.
  • Lift/carry and position hydraulic rams.
  • Use power washers & spray paint equipment to clean & paint vehicles.
  • Use instruments and computers to reprogram equipment controllers.
  • Effectively document repair activities on customer work orders.
  • Operate an assigned service vehicle and adhere to GPEC Fleet Policy Standards.
  • Communicate effectively using telephones to receive instructions and provide service information.
  • Deal directly with customers at site locations in a professional manner.
