About The Position

The Rental Diesel Technician is responsible for performing incidental repairs, removing and replacing repairable sub-assemblies, evaluating damage to determine reusability in rebuild, troubleshooting equipment, and/or performing high level diagnostic assessments. This role is expected to reflect the company’s vision of working as “One Professional Team.” Depending upon education and experience, the Shop Mechanic may perform all or some of the essential functions with or without direct supervision. Training for this position will be conducted at the Aurora location until the Denver location opens in 2026.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Heavy equipment, engine, or mechanic repair experience
  • 1+ years administrative/clerical experience
  • 1+ years customer service experience
  • Standing, walking, talking, sitting, use of hands & hearing
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, etc.
  • Heavy work that includes lifting and/or moving objects up to 100 pounds or more
  • Data Entry, telephone, reading/writing, reasoning, organizational, communication & math skills
  • Safety & Product Knowledge
  • Understanding of diagrams and schematics
  • Intermediate diagnostic aptitude
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Wynne, and ET/SIS/SIS Web/STW
  • Basic knowledge of Windows/Internet

  • Graduation from a technical school with emphasis on diesel engine

Responsibilities

  • Learn and understand how to use the work order system.
  • Complete all documents and parts orders associated with repairs in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Identify parts for return timely.
  • Work effectively with others in the shop and accept helpful technical advice from others with more work experience.
  • Communicate effectively with Shop Leads, Shop Coordinators and Managers to ensure problems, nature of repair, and status of repairs are understood and followed up on.
  • Engage in required safety practices and maintain quality housekeeping in work area.
  • Accomplish work to the Service Department's quality standards, within allowed time.
  • Read and understand the manufacturers’ Operation and Maintenance Manual per machine type and comply with its contents.
  • Inspect equipment and maintain equipment to ensure safe operation.
  • Understand the operation, function, specifications, capabilities and controls of any piece of rental equipment to ensure all operating controls and functions are in compliance with manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Inspect machines returned from rental for customer damage and notify supervisors regarding any specific damage that was found.
  • Adhere to manager’s and lead mechanic’s directions regarding all repairs and service calls.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and diagnosing of equipment malfunctions and failures with appropriate supervision.
  • Assist in rebuilding, repairing, and maintaining equipment and components.
  • Attend training as requested.
  • Assume yard duties as needed; load/unload equipment and clean returned rental equipment with pressure washer.
  • Work overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
  • Perform incidental repairs.
  • Remove and replace repairable sub-assemblies.
  • Evaluate damage to determine reusability in rebuild.
  • Troubleshoot equipment.
  • Perform high level diagnostic assessments.
