About The Position

The Allied Healthcare team is seeking a Renewal Underwriter to join their team. This is a full time, exempt role open to any location in the US. This is a hybrid or remote opportunity. You’ll work in a collaborative environment with access to specialized expertise and tools that support both underwriting excellence and sales success. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Renewal Underwriter to manage and grow a portfolio of Allied Healthcare business. This role is responsible for underwriting, retaining, and expanding existing accounts while driving profitable growth aligned with industry segments and line-of-business strategies. The ideal candidate brings strong technical underwriting expertise, a sales mindset, and the ability to make sound risk decisions using both internal insights and external market data. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy, within a standard letter of authority, while collaborating across teams to deliver comprehensive insurance solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3-7+ years of Allied Healthcare underwriting experience.
  • 3+ years of experience driving agency relationships resulting in profitable new and renewal business.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly, think critically, and embrace new approaches.
  • Excellent prioritization and desk management skills, with a focus on execution and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and qualify risks by identifying exposures, hazards, and appropriate controls.
  • Apply underwriting guidelines, tools, and strategies to ensure disciplined decision-making.
  • Assess pricing adequacy by understanding rating methodologies and correlating pricing to exposure.
  • Ask targeted questions to fully understand risks, even with limited initial information.
  • Document underwriting decisions clearly and thoroughly.
  • Provide precise rating instructions to support accurate quote development.
  • Manage a renewal book to achieve goals related to profitability, retention, rate, and product mix.
  • Leverage pipeline management and marketing practices to drive consistent results.
  • Utilize financial metrics and portfolio insights to inform underwriting decisions.
  • Understand and respond to market trends, competitive pressures, and regional dynamics.
  • Identify opportunities to rebalance the portfolio and drive growth across business segments.
  • Partner internally to optimize outcomes and expand coverage offerings.
  • Proactively manage agency relationships to drive retention and uncover growth opportunities.
  • Negotiate and position accounts to improve hold ratio and overall portfolio performance.
  • Profile agency partners and align underwriting strategies with business goals.
  • Stay informed on regulatory, market, and competitive dynamics.
  • Maintain a franchise mindset, identifying cross-sell opportunities across lines of business.
  • Deliver presentations and collaborate with Claims, Risk Management, and Specialty teams to enhance the value proposition.
  • Utilize sales tools, systems, and best practices to drive disciplined execution.
